Member of Parliament for the Portland Eastern Constituency, Ann Marie Vaz has tabled a resolution in Parliament to allow for a change in the dress code for female parliamentarians.
This resolution, as outlined by MP Vaz will be geared at allowing females to wear sleeveless garments in the chambers.
This notion first came to the public’s eye in 2018 after Prime Minister Holness formally gave instructions for the suspension of the no-sleeveless policy and instructed a full review of government dress code practices.
Following this, Vaz underscored that this notion would allow women to adorn themselves in a comfort of a modern yet environmentally suitable dress code.
“Given that women now wear pants suits, and also have sleeveless garments being accepted in corporate chambers, whereas the changing climate has influenced the changing style of clothing to keep women cool and safeguard their health, the acceptance of sleeveless garments are accepted in public offices and state gatherings, be it resolved that the House establishes this review by the Most Honorable Prime Minister that the female members of the House may have a modern and environmentally suitable dress code ” Mrs. Vaz said.
Since this notion was tabled, social media users have chided with Vaz alluding the dress code rules of the Parliament, borders on archaic principles and should be modified with immediate effect.
