Police officer detained for pulling firearm on hotel staff

A police officer was detained on Friday for allegedly pulling his service weapon on security personnel and other persons at the Bahia Principe Hotel in Runaway Bay, St Ann.

In addition to his arrest, the Police High Command has ordered a probe into the ordeal.

According to reports, at around 4:00 p.m., the Detective Corporal who is said to be a guest at the hotel, was having a drink.

It’s understood that the policeman reportedly became intoxicated and started cavorting in a disorderly manner. Further reports also outlined that during his drunken rage, the accused allegedly pulled his weapon on security personnel who confronted him on his behavior.

Subsequently, guests were seen scampering for safety, while the accused was disarmed by security officers who were summoned the Discovery Bay police.

Meanwhile, Head of the St Ann police division, Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell outlined that the accused is now under investigation for the offence of assault at common law.
