Gov’t set to spend $900 million on cybersecurity in 2023/24

Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke has alluded that a total of $900 million will be spent on cybersecurity initiatives for the 2023/24 fiscal year.

This sum, as underscored by the Minister will be used for the procurement of software and hardware geared at expanding the capabilities of the security forces to counter cybercrimes.

In addition to garnering innovative technology that will aid in curbing the tide of cybercrimes, the Government has also expressed that efforts will also be made to modernize tenets of the security forces.

This includes expanding the Jamaica Eye network, the inclusion of additional sites to the Radio and Microwave Networks, which are operated by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and continued work on the construction and renovation of Police Stations and other facilities.

The Government also plans on acquiring more state-of-the-art marine vessels.
