National Long Jump Champion Wayne Pinnock produced a world-leading 8.54-metre effort to lead a Jamaican trio into the event final at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest on Wednesday.
Pinnock needed just one jump to wrap up his qualification after registering the world lead on his first attempt. The distance was also a new personal record for the 22-year-old, shattering his previous best of 8.31m set at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May.
The Arkansas University star, who advanced first among qualifiers, led three Jamaican finalists in the event.
Fellow Arkansas teammate Carey McLeod also secured automatic qualification to the final after leaping to 8.19 m, which was the best jump in Group B.
2017 World Champion Tajay Gayle also secured a return to the finals as one of the non-automatic qualifiers from the group with 8.12m to advance eight overall among the 12 finalists.
The final is set to take place on Thursday at 12:30 a.m. Jamaica time.
