Newly crowned men’s 200m Olympic Champion, Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo has chided the attention placed on African athletes in Netflix’s sporting documentary series SPRINT 2.

The World Junior record holder expressed his disdain for aspects of the release via his X/twitter account following the show’s premiere on Wednesday.

“The is an American show”, his initial tweet read before adding a quoted repost of another tweet demanding Netflix issue an apology to several listed top African athletes.

While online users largely agreed with his sentiments, the African champion faced pushback for his perspective, with some noting that the show focused on the dominant athletes.

“Sprint 2”, which premiered on Wednesday, is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Sprint, which debuted in July as a precursor to the Olympic games in Paris.

Tebogo was among a handful of sprint stars like the men’s 100m Champion Noah Lyles of the US, Jamaica’s sprint sensation and silver medalist Kishane Thompson, who headlined the second instalment.
