An Indian Family has gone viral for spending over $ US 4,500 dollars on a funeral as a final send-off for an old family SUV.

According to reports, the Polara family in Padarshinga Village, Gujarat, has been making headlines in the country for their level of attachment to an 18-year-old Suzuki Wagon R and how they’ve disposed of the vehicle via funeral.

It was further reported that the “lavish burial ceremony” was also attended by over 1,500 locals, adding to the notoriety of the bizarre concept of humanising the vehicle instead of abandoning at a scrap yard.

Speaking to local media, Patriarch Sanjay Polara said the family possess several high-end cars; however, noted that they shared a special bond with the old car that was pivotal in the early days of their rise to wealth.

“This car was more than just a vehicle; it was part of our journey toward success. Instead of selling it, we wanted to honour it with a lasting memory for future generations,” Sanjay said.

Following the conclusion of the rituals, an excavator was used to cover the wagon with dirt and clay.

Sanjay Polara, who is reported to own a construction business, said they intended to plant a tree over the unusual grave site as a symbolic reminder for generations about the significance of the car.
