As the US continues its hardline stance on immigration under the reinstated Donald Trump Administration, Jamaica appears to be among the countries on the list with a high volume of persons on the radar for removal.

More than 5,000 persons are targeted for removal, according to a list for the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) by the US Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE), as per retrieved statistic shared by FoxNews.

The document, which appears to reflect a recent date of November 2024, reflects a breakdown by country of over 1.44 million “non-citizens [without legal status] on ICE’s non-detained docket with final orders of removal.”

Despite the volume, Jamaica’s numbers are dwarfed by several of its South and Central American counterparts such as El Salvador with over 203,410, Guatemala with -253,413, border neighbour Mexico-252,044 with Honduran nationals with the highest documented illegal status at 261,651 as per Fox News.

The recent circulation of this list of non-us individuals without legal status on final orders of removal comes amidst the wave of mass deportation by the country, with reports of many opting for “self-deportation” to avoid implications of being pursued and forcefully deported to their respective countries.
