Two persons have been taken into custody in connection with a major firearms and ammunition bust at a Kingston port on Monday, which yielded 66 weapons, including 16 high-powered riffles and over 4,600 rounds of ammunition packaged inside a barrel.
Among the 66 weapons confiscated from the Barrel container, which was shipped from the United States- specifically, were 16 high-powered riffles and 50 handguns packaged with 4,700 rounds of 9mm ammunition
The bust was a joint operation between the Jamaica Customs Agency and the Jamaica Constabulary Force JCF.
Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP, Dr Anthony McLaughin, shared the update via a statement on Thursday gave the update on the bust via a statement on Thursday.
ACP McLaughing noted that the suspects in detention are expected to be charged in short order following questioning by detectives as the investigations continue in the matter.
