A Human Resource (HR) manager of a Shanghai-based technology company was reportedly convicted of defrauding his company of millions of dollars by “hiring” dozens of fake employees and collecting their pay.
According to reports, a recently released “White Paper on the Prosecution of Duty-Related Crimes by Company and Enterprise Personnel in Minhang District” of The People’s Procuratorate of Minhang District revealed the elaborate multi-million dollar case which has been making the rounds online.
It’s understood that the scam, which spanned years, was uncovered after the unnamed tech company noticed the perfect attendance of one employee who had been “working” with them for almost two years, but had never been seen by anyone during that time.
Investigations into the identity of the person eventually led to the discovery of the massive fraud orchestrated by a single HR manager identified as Yang.
During the revelation, it was unveiled that not only was the punctual employee in question fictitious, but so too were 21 other registered employees supposedly hired by the HR personnel, despite collecting monthly pay.
It’s further reported that, following questioning, the HR manager confessed to the ruse to collect more 3.1 million Yuan over eight years. He was eventually sentenced to 10 years and 2 months in prison, deprivation of political rights and one year, and fined for embezzlement.
