The Sleek brand is amplifying the unique opportunity of pairing the existing value of radio listenership with the ‘buzz factor,’ immediacy, and engagement digital media provides as part of creative cross-media convergence.

Commenting on the venture, Minister of State and Industry, Delano Seivwright, who was among the government dignitaries present, noted that the launch represents more than just media convergence but is also a template showing modern media’s evolution and how creative strategy expands with inclusion.

It’s (the event’s occasion) much larger than the launch of Sleek Radio, it’s about Entrepreneurship…innovation… creativity and understanding of where the future of media is heading,” expressed Minister Seivwright. “So conversation should no longer be about whether radio survives… because the data speaks. “A radio still reaches 93% of American adults every month,” he explained, citing data from Nielsen Audio reports. Noting that US Radio consumption behaviour is not far off local patterns. “The real opportunity is not whether radio survives, but how innovative companies like Sleek combine radio’s unmatched reach and credibility with the limitless possibilities of applications, he added of digital media streaming and social media creator content and digital engagement“, he shared.

A sentiment echoed by the Principal of UWI, Mona, Professor Densil Williams, who applauded the move, not only as a creative and innovative strategy in media integration, but also as a meaningful and integral partner with the University in preparing future practitioners in the field.

To do that, we can’t follow the traditional pathways of persons having a degree and graduate and leave, he said, as he stressed the “need to integrate in the wider ecosystem in the society”.

Chairman of Sleek Radio, Andrew Bellamy, underscored the points stated, adding that the immense commercial opportunity it presents not only for effective advertising, but also for real public engagement, discourse and trend-forward communication across the board.
