One lucky Powerball player in Illinois hit the ‘play’ of a lifetime after winning a US $1.04 billion jackpot following Wednesday night’s drawing.
In a press release to local media, Powerball announced that someone correctly hit all six numbers from a $2 ticket purchase despite odds of 292.2 million to one to win the billion-dollar prize. The 10-figure payout will be eigth biggest purse win in U.S. Powerball history, People reports.
While it’s unclear if the winner has already stepped forward to claim the prize, they will have two options to receive a payout, which include either a $450.5 million lump sum or the full amount in regular payments reported to be over 29 years.
Taxes and other fees will erode the final amount to just under half a billion; however, it will remain a life-changing return on investment on a two-dollar bet.
