Summer is fast approaching and of course, the festivities will turn up a notch over the holiday break. Songs toasting “Sand, Sun and Fun” are expected to take centre stage among music jugglings. As the anticipation increases for summer time fun, we look at a few notable summer-themed songs.

Holiday- Ding Dong ft Chevaughn

Among the earliest summer-themed dancehall songs, this Ding Dong and Chevaughn toast to the holiday remains an anthem among summer mixes. Such was the impact and versatility of the dance moves created around the single which became what would now be considered “viral.”

Vybz Kartel- Summer Time

Another pioneering dedicated dancehall summer release, this Kartel classic, which became an instant add to several playlists following its release in 2009, has remained a staple during throwback jugglings, especially at summer events.

The single remains among Kartel’s most streamed releases, racking up 100 million views on YouTube.

Beenie Man “Let’s go to the Beach

Sand sun and fun, a summertime fantasy most people aspire to experience, and Beenie Man’s track “Let’s Go to the Beach” delivered that musical commentary of unprohibited fun. The track, a standout record on the hit Overproof Riddim in 2011, remains among the go-to beach road trip anthems by both Jamaicans and tourists.

Mavado-Final Destination

In arguably one of the most chilled yet catchy summer-themed releases, Mavado delivered a solid with Final Destination on the bouncy “Final Destination Riddim”. The track, Mavado’s first “summer song,” was among the fan favourites from the juggling, which further showed off “Gully Gad’s” range of topic selection and execution in music.

Denyque-“Summer Love”

While not a dancehall track, this playful Reggae serenade by Denyque remains a noted staple for many as a delightful reflection of enjoying blissful summer experiences with a crush. The single remains one of her most notable drops, amassing over 3.8 million streams on YouTube.
