An emerging market for the purchase of “Bank soil” as a means of attracting wealth has reportedly emerged as a trend in China.

According to reports, the trend seemingly rooted in superstition has seen people desperate to get rich quickly become complicit in an unusual style of bank robbery, with the rich soil on sale reportedly stolen from bank properties.

It’s understood that the bizarre bank robberies target soil and small pots of plants around the premises, and can fetch up to 888 yuan ($120), in various online shops in the Asian country, with reports of the demand steadily increasing.

It’s further understood that sellers boast of a “999.999 percent success rate in generating wealth,” as a means of enhancing the allure of the soil, while going as far as recording acts of taking the soil to prove its authenticity.

“This soil is manually collected from the five major banks and is believed to enhance wealth and dissolve bad energy, though we cannot scientifically prove this,” a sales representative is reported to have shared with local publication South China Morning Post. “Bank soil is collected at night from the green belts in front of these banks, not just one specific financial outlet.”

Despite the ludicrous nature of the trend, it’s understood to have chinese social media split with some bashing the idea while others hoping to cash in.
