Dancehall heavyweights Beenie Man, Sean Paul and Spragga Benz have been listed among Billboard’s staff picks of the “100 Greatest Songs of 2004.

The list, comprising the “best” songs across several genres, such as Rock, R&B, Rap, Pop, etc.. during the period, saw dancehall artistes make an impression on the staff comprising of editors and writers of the publication who collectively curated the compilation they believe best defines the year.

Beenie Man started the Jamaican introduction at 98 with the hit “King of the Dancehall”. The international hit was his fifth Billboard entry, spending 12 weeks on the chart.

Sean Paul and singer Sasha were the next Jamaicans on the list for their hit Reggae ballad “I’m Still in Love,” coming in at number 84. The collaboration, a cover of Marcia Aiken’s 1977 smash of the same name, peaked at number 14 on the Hot 100 Songs chart.

Spragga Benz was the highest-placing Jamaican among the 100 songs at 65 via his collaboration with Kevin Lyttle for Turn Me On. Despite being officially released in late 2003, the Soca-fused single gained steam in 2004, ultimately peaking at number four on the Hot 100 chart.
