As the expectation of a debut Grammy Awards appearance of Dancehall star Vybz Kartel, heightens following his reported US visa issuance, Billboard Magazine predicts that the night will be a ‘crowning’ moment for the “Worl Boss”.

The globally noted media outlet shared that while the year’s list of nominees is among the more diverse groups to contend for Music’s biggest award, Kartel’s massive impact, exemplified by his chart-topping project ” Party With”, enters with the slight edge to claim the win.

In its feature of the category, Billboard notes the momentum from the anticipation and conclusion of his Freedom Street Concert on New Year’s Eve, which underlined his global star status, could’ve helped to sway last-minute voting in his favour, albeit coming at the tail end of the voting deadline.

“Though Party With Me lacks an all-out smash à la “Fever” and “Clarks,” Kartel’s narrative may prove too irresistible for any of his competitors to put up a fight. The Freedom Street concert dominated social media, but it happened near the very end of the voting period (Jan. 3), when many voters had presumably cast their ballots already.

Kartel who is celebrating his first official Grammy nod, is one first-time nominee in the category, fellow dancehaller Sheneeaa with her -“Never Gets Late Here” album is the other.

Other nominees include returning residents: Collie Buddz, with Take It Easy,  Bob Marley: One Love – Music Inspired By The Film (Deluxe) (Various Artists) and Evolution by The Wailers.

Should Kartel walk away with the win, he would join the elite ranks of Shabba Ranks, Shaggy Beenie Man and Sean Paul as Dancehall acts to claim the honour and first.
