Police Commissioner Major Antony Anderson

Police Commissioner Major Antony Anderson has outlined that plans are being put forth to purchase more than one thousand body worn cameras for police personnel this fiscal year.

This disclosure was made by the Commissioner during yesterday’s press briefing.

Commissioner Anderson also indicated that the proposed plan would commence in stages; So far, a data center has been established with the purpose of capturing images generated by thousands of cameras.

This venture as outlined by the Commissioner though a bit expensive, will pave the way for the procurement of cameras.

“Of course, this venture is not cheap venture, it’s an expensive venture, first we had to create the backend. So, we have a data center that can capture the images of thousands of cameras, that in and of itself is a significant task rollout. Subsequent to that, it’s really to purchase the cameras as we go along and fit them on our members” Major Anderson explained.

Meanwhile, The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has called for increased digital recordings during police interactions with the public.
