Members of the dancehall fraternity have taken to social media to express their anguish and disgust, following the barbaric murder of 9-year-old Gabriel King who was killed during a carjacking incident in St James on Thursday.
One such artiste was veteran Beenie Man, who took to Twitter urging Jamaicans to exercise intolerance of crime.
“We can’t tolerate this level of violence and crime in our country. It a get out of hand,” Beenie Man tweeted. “Caan even say it a get from bad to worst bc it reach worst,” he added.
Bounty Killer also relayed his concerns on Instagram about the surge in violent crimes since the start of the year.
“Harsh/Hard reality, seem like Jamaica is not a real place anymore though,” he said. “The younger generation are been misguided and mislead with no one looking out for young ppl selfish SuckCiety,” he added.
Reggae and dancehall music producer Skatta Burrell also took to Instagram and urged Jamaicans to speak up rather than stay silent.
“How we stand by and allow the very few bent on evil to continue succeeding and plunder the innocent. Remember silence means consent,” he said, in a now-deleted Instagram post.
“Everyone quiet until it reaches their door step and then you have those Hypocrites who friends and families of these vampires who continues to support them and encourage the wrongs for whatever reason. IF You all think you’re safe don’t worry everyone’s time is coming when they will be at the mercy of these vampires begging for their lives,” Skatta continued.
“Act now or wait until then the choice is ours. Proactive measures are needed to curtail this crime ridden society that continues to grow and the onus is on EVERY SINGLE JAMAICAN NONE EXEMPT to do their part,” he continued.
He also noted that it is also quite sad when children are being murdered and citizens act vicariously.
“Cyaa believe we this Quiet when Kids lives are being taken yet we have children of our own and expect them to grow in a place such as this and ever be safe. JAMAICANS WAKE THE F#CK UP!!!” he exclaimed.
Jamaican dancehall recording artiste Konshens also voiced his concerns on Twitter: “Jamaica, wtf are we doing”.

On Thursday, DCP Fitz Bailey pointed out that 11 people were murdered in the past 24 hours bringing the murder total to 48.
The murders included two women who were executed in Westmoreland, three double murders in Bull Bay, and two murders in St James and St Andrew Central respectively.
The murder count, he notes, exceeds the murder total that was quoted in the period of 2020.
