Legendary actor Denzel Washington has received a record-breaking 10th Oscar nomination, to extend his own record as the all-time leader in nominations for a black actor.

Washington, 69, got the Best Actor nod for his compelling work on ‘ The Tragedy of MacBeth’.

It’s his first nomination since 2018, where he was nominated for Best Actor in his critically acclaimed performance in Roman J. Israel, Esq.

The ‘Malcolm X’ and ‘Training Day’ actor, who holds two wins, has over the years been the subject of discussions of deserving more awards for repeatedly producing gripping performances.

Washington, who is regarded as one of the greatest actors of all time, is only the second ever black actor to walk away with an Oscar award, ‘firsted’ only by the late Sidney Poitier.

Some of his most notable performances include 1993’s Malcolm X, 2002’s John Q, 2001’s Training Day for which he copped the Best Actor Award, and 1990’s Glory, where he won Best Supporting Actor, his first-ever Oscar.
