Miami-Dade County officials have indicated that a West Kendall mother has been charged with manslaughter after police reports revealed that she left her 7-month-old son to drown in a bathtub while she did her nails in another room.

The accused, Alyssa Carolyn Jimmie, 22, was formally charged when she appeared in Miami-Dade circuit court on Thursday May 26 but was granted a $10,000 bond.

Reports indicate that Jimmie left her 7-month-old boy Prince Mejia and his 3-year-old brother in a bathtub with the water running while she went into the home’s garage to get her nails done at an “at-home manicure station” on May 20.

However, when she returned to check on her kids Jimmie reportedly found the toddler infant lying face down in the tub.

Subsequently, the infant was rushed to hospital but all efforts to revive the child was futile and he was declared dead three days after the incident took place.

In the interim, Miami-Dade Associate Medical Examiner Mark Shuman ruled Prince died of an accidental drowning.
