Team Jamaica continued their inspirational run in the 2025 Men’s U-20 Lacrosse World Cup after dismantling New Zealand 18-6 to advance to the tournament’s play-in round following consecutive wins in Pool C of the competition in Seogwipo, Korea.
The young “JamLax” team, which made a massive statement following a comprehensive 17-7 win over hosts South Korea on Saturday, carried over that venom for another commanding display against the”Kiwis”, adding an exclamation point to their presence on Tuesday.
Jamaica, which was aiming for a top-two qualifying spot with a positive result, made its intentions known early by reeling off a blistering 8-goal blitz to take the opening quarter 8-1 before following up with a 5-3 lead in a more competitive second session. Evans Stones netted five times as Jamaica ended the half with a 13-4 lead.
Despite a more defensive posture by the “Kiwis” in the second stanza, who show signs of mounting a comeback with a pair of strikes across both quarters, the Caribbean team maintained their stranglehold on the game, bagging three unanswered goals to open the third before closing it out with their 18th and the game’s final in the fourth quarter.
The final score saw Jamaica take the game 18-6 for their second consecutive win from three games, ensuring they finished qualified for the play-in round. They will next face Ireland on Wednesday for a spot in the tournament quarterfinals.
