Jamaica continues its historic presence in the world of international Lacrosse after qualifying for the quarterfinal of the men’s U-20 Championships in Korea on Wednesday.
The “JamLax team”, who’ve been impressive throughout in Pool C games, underlined their championship-contending quality with a competitive 10-7 victory over seventh-ranked Ireland in their crucial play-in round game.
The game itself could’ve been likened to a highlight reel of Jamaica’s determined resolve this tournament, with the team rallying from a 4-1 deficit in the first quarter to level the encounter 5-5 in the second in sensational 25 minutes of action.
A motivated Jamaica carried that momentum into the second half, taking the lead inside the first five seconds courtesy of a spectacular Domani White solo effort, followed by Carl Hyman brace minutes later to headline a sensational five-goal rally as Jamaica claimed the third 3-2 for an 8-7 lead heading into the fourth.
With history beckoning, Team Jamaica tightened the screws on the victory with two goals from Elias Shadeed-McLaughlin and Evan Stones before shutting the door on the Irish attack, taking the session 2-0 for a 10-7 win, punching their first top-eight appearance at that level.
They will face lacrosse giants number two-seed Canada for a chance at the semifinals on Thursday.
