Jamaican artistes take home top awards at the Caribbean Music Awards

Jamaicans right across the region and the world are celebrating the success of some of the nation’s top artistes who took home awards from the Caribbean Music Awards on Thursday, August 31.

The CMA brought together some of the biggest names in Reggae, Dancehall, Kompa, Zouk, and Soca music under the same roof.

The event started on the red carpet as fans got a glimpse of the stars before they entered the building for a night of glamour, excitement, and Caribbean pride.

Jamaican Reggae/Lovers Rock artiste Beres Hammond was honored with the Elite Icon Award and was saluted with a medley by Dexta Daps, Kranium, Toni-Ann Singh, and Romain Virgo.

Incarcerated Dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel took the title of Artist of the Decade which was announced by Spice.

Wayne Wonder who received the Lifetime Award for the work he has done in the music industry regionally and internationally. The soca king Machel Montano was also given this award.

The Impact Award for Reggae went to the Grammy winner Kabaka Pyramid.

Dexta Daps took home the award for Performer of the Year, while Spice was named Female Artiste of the Year with Ding Dong who was named Male Artiste of the Year.

Ding Dong also won Dance Song of the Year with the song ‘Bounce’.

Meanwhile, Album of the Year for Dancehall went to Masicka with his history-making ‘438’ album.

There were several other winners of the night as the CMA showcased the best of the Caribbean at all levels.

The inaugural ceremony of the Caribbean Music Awards, CMA, was held in Brooklyn, New York, and was hosted by Grammy Award winner Wyclef Jean at Kings Theatre in Flatbush.
