In his Diamond League debut, Jamaica’s Discus sensation Ralford Mullings underlined his championship quality after launching a massive 69.66m to upstage world record holder Mykolas Alekna on his way to victory in the event in Brussels on Friday.

Mullings’ throw, which came on his final attempt, bettered his fourth round effort (69.82m) to seal victory, further relegating the World Record Holder ALEKNA of Lithuania to second with a best of 68.82m.

The Jamaican was the only competitor to register a mark over 69 meters on the day.

The win comes less than a week after setting a National record with 72.01m, the seventh longest in history, to beat a quality field including Olympic Champion and countryman Roje Stona on his way to victory in Oakland.

His performances have elevated his status among Gold Medal contenders at next month’s World Championships in Tokyo.
