A Chinese man who frequently uses a massage gun on his face and eyes was reportedly forced to undergo surgery after suffering lens dislocation and developing cataracts.

According to reports, the man identified as Mr Luo, a 42-year-old fitness enthusiast from Wuhan, in Central China, purchased the massage gun following the recommendation of a fitness instructor praising its effectiveness on his tired muscles.

It’s understood that Mr Luo, who became so impressed by the device’s work on his body following workouts, decided to use it on his face as a form of therapy to help him relax due to his work schedule.

“I set the fascial gun to a low setting and used it on the acupuncture points around my eyes for five minutes at a time,” Mr Luo told doctors at Wuhan University’s Aier Eye Hospital.

The assumption that the device, which was meant for deep tissue massage, would have the same harmless benefit to his eyes proved dire as he later developed an issues with his sight.

According to reports, Mr Luo urgently sought medical attention after experiencing blurred vision, where he was diagnosed with lens dislocation and cataracts.

Following consultation by doctors assessing his conditions, which had worsened over days, he was informed that the issue was a result of trauma caused by subjecting his eyes to the device.

Mr Luo underwent laser-assisted surgery to repair the damage to his eyes, where he’s expected to make a good recovery.
