Manchester United’s erratic 2024 season continued on Thursday after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Fenerbahçe in the Europa Cup action.
United, who copped a morale-boosting 2-1 win in the premiership over the weekend, showed that confidence after taking an early lead through midfielder Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen showed clinical precision to finish off a Joshua Zirkzee pullback inside the box, finding the back of the net in the 15th minute on the back of a Man U siege.
Despite a fairly controlled half-hour by the former champs, United were unable to preserve their advantage and eventually conceded a goal just after the break.
Winger Allan Saint-Maximin capitalising on a fickle-looking United defence as he rose highest to meet cross Youssef En-Nesyri with a headed effort into the left corner from close range to equalise in the 49th minute.
Despite menacing runs by both teams, those runs were immaterial as the scoreline remained untroubled for the remainder of the game which ended in drawn result.
The result, United’s third consecutive draw in the tournament, leaves them 27th in the standings on three points from three games.
