MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Mayor of Mandeville Donovan Mitchell has tendered his resignation as chairman of the Manchester Municipal Corporation.

His resignation is expected to take effect at 5:00 pm today.

However, Mitchell, the People’s National Party (PNP) councillor for the Royal Flat Division,  is expected to continue in that position until the next local government election is announced.

“It has become evidently clear that the members of the council [have] lost confidence in me in executing my duties as chairman. Please note [that] I will continue to sit as councillor for the [division] until the next elections are called,” he wrote in a letter dated July 15, a copy of which SLEEK News has seen.
