North East St. Ann Member of Parliament, Marsha Smith, has resigned with immediate effect.

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) a short while ago confirmed Smith’s resignation.

Smith was elected to represent the constituency of St Ann North East in September 2020.

The statement from OPM said, Prime Minister Andrew Holness thanks Smith for her service in representational politics.

Smith had faced protests from her former constituents in recent years who have suggested that she was an absentee MP.

Senator Matthew Samuda was recently appointed as Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Chairman for the North East St. Ann constituency organization.

He is expected to be the JLP candidate for the constituency when an election is called.
