Dancehall stars Masicka, Teejay Vybz Kartel Jada Kingdom, and Reggae/ dub heavyweight Protoje are among the standout artistes for the October edition of Billboard’s Reggae/Dancehall Fresh Picks of the Month.
Masicka and Teejay make a joint entry into this month’s Billboard pick with their viral hit “Never Complain”.
The collaboration, which has sparked great interest among Dancehall fans locally, has also compelled strong listenership overseas with its motivational and catchy message of persistence through adversity by two of the current generation’s music titan leaders.
Dancehall “Comet” Vybz Kartel continues to make a massive impact on his official return to freedom and in the Dancehall scene with his inclusion in the latest list of picks via his Major Lazer-producer single “Nobody Move”.
The track, which presents a nostalgic throwback sound and a nod to the dub era of dancehall, is complemented by the melodic lyricism of the “World Boss” and has gained solid reception since its premiere.
Kartel previously made the list with his chart-topping smash “The Comet” to mark his return to stunning reign as the top Dancehall act.
Protoje’s “Barrel Bun” also made a mark on the Billboard curator’s ears as a “fresh find”. The track, which is part of the soundtrack to his forthcoming short film, sees “Proto” deliver poignant social commentary with his trademark “potency of puns” eloquently cradled within smooth and ear-catching flows.
Dancehall starlet Jada Kingdom makes her mark among the latest ‘Fresh Picks’ with her recent release, “Somebody Else”. The single, which fuses dancehall with R&B undertones, has been a playlist favourite among her global fans. Its addition adds to the steady attention of mainstream media.
Other notable picks Include Skip Marley with his Maxie Priest-sampled “Close”, “Banana” by Soca star Nailah Blackman, “Bad Gyal” by Beach Boii & Simon Said and “Kitty Kat” by Patrice Roberts.
