Olympic double sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah will be eyeing legendary status in Paris as she seeks to join Usain Bolt as the only two sprinters to win three consecutive double titles at the games as preparation continues for qualifiers.

Thompson-Herah, the second fastest woman ever over the 100m, previously made history as the first female sprinter to successfully defend her titles following double gold at the Tokyo-hosted Olympics in 2020.

The Jamaican great, who also ran an Olympic record of 10.61 seconds for the gold medal, became the fourth woman to repeat as sprint champion to lead a Jamaican 1-2-3 in the final.

The victory follows up her double-double debut at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, reinforcing Jamaica’s dominance in female sprinting.

Thompson-Herah, who had a turbulent start to the 2023 season, delivered a strong signal of her return to form following a series of sub-11 season best to sign off the year as she set the momentum ahead of the 2024 championship year.

This year is expected to be among the most competitive yet in female sprinting with former two-time Olympic champ Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, 200m World Champion Shericka Jackson, and 100m gold medalist Sha’Carri Richardson showing out in top form. Certainly, a world record watch will be active.
