Members of the public are being asked to exercise vigilance when purchasing goat meat from unlicensed vendors. This comes in light of a goat theft that occurred on the McCook’s Farm in St Mary early on Monday morning.

Reports are that eight heads of goats were stolen between the hours of 1:00 am to 6:00 am and transported to another location.

In an interview with SLEEK Jamaica Media, Director of Operations for the McCook Farms Limited, Peter McCook, noted that he was alerted by the bellows of the goats between and upon an investigation, made the discovery that eight heads of goats were stolen from the premises.

The goats stolen include six rams and two ewes, all of which were on a series of antibiotics and deworming medication which if consumed by humans can be fatal, he told SLEEK.

An urgent plea was issued by the Director for the public to purchase goat meat from reputable sources.

“Just be careful of your food source, buy from reputable butchers as opposed to questionable sources,” he said.

He also pointed out that a report has since been filed to the Gayle Police Station in St Mary and an investigation has been launched.

No one has since been arrested.
