Brazilian football star Raphina scored a hattrick in a player of the match performance to steer Barcelona to a 4-1 victory over Bayern Munich in Champions League action on Wednesday.

Raphina’s hunger for goals was known as early as the first minute as he capitalised on a delightful Fermín López through pass into the box before banging in a left-footed shot straight down the middle for a quick-fire 1-0 lead.

The Brazilian showed versatility for his second goal, scoring with his right foot coming off the left flank in the 45th minute.

The winger latched on to crispy give-and-go with Marc Casadó before threading his effort into the bottom right corner to extend Barca’s lead after Robert Lewandowski restored their advantage in minute 36 following Harry Kane’s 18th-minute equaliser.

Raphina’s hattrick was completed shortly following the resumption, as he again picked out the bottom right corner following a stinging left-footer to make 4-1. Lamine Yamal bagged the assist on that occasion with a well-weighted through pass on the counter-attack.

Despite both teams looking threatening at intervals, the La Liga giants were the more confident of the two, which was reflected in the score line as the tactics of Barcelona manager Hansil Flick condemned his former team to a harsh loss at home.

The win, their second in three games, sees them move up to ninth on the table of the new format, three points behind unbeaten leaders Liverpool (9) and Aston Villa (9).
