R&B/Pop megastar Rihanna officially released her first original song since 2022 on Friday.
The track titled “Friend of Mine”, which was accompanied by a clip of the music video, is the lead single from the soundtrack of the highly anticipated Smurfs Movie, in which she stars as the voice of one of the lead characters “, Smurffete”.
“Friend of Mine” comes three years after breaking her six-year recorded music drought with the track “Lift Me Up”. That song was coincidentally also part of a movie soundtrack, Marvel’s Hollywood Blockbuster, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”
The single was one of two voiced for the movie, with the “Born Again” the other, making “Friend of Mine” just her third official release in eight years.
While it remains unclear if “Friend of Mine” is solitary Rihanna song on the project that may be closet thing to new music fans could expect from the “bad gal” for a while following her recent pregnancy announcement.
On the eve of the 2025 Met Gala, the “Diamonds” hitmaker revealed that she and her partner rapper ASAP Rocky were expecting their third child together.
“Riri” also strutted her beautiful baby bump on the event red carpet, which of course was magnetised all the lenses of the media and social mentions online.
