Peace and Love in Society (PALS) Jamaica is expressing gratitude for the strong response from schools across the island following the successful staging of Peace Day 2026 on March 3, under the theme “Rebuild Jamaica Piece by Peace.”

Schools across Jamaica observed the day with activities designed to promote tolerance, respect, empathy and peaceful conflict resolution among students.  The level of participation from educators and students alike continues to demonstrate that the PALS message remains highly relevant within Jamaica’s education system.

PALS General Manager Janilee Abrikian was particularly encouraged by the level of engagement from school leaders.

“Each year Peace Day reminds us that educators across Jamaica are deeply committed to nurturing a culture of respect and peaceful dialogue among our young people,” Abrikian said.

“We have been especially encouraged by the number of principals and guidance counsellors who have reached out seeking structured programmes that can help students build the skills needed to manage conflict and make positive choices.”

Abrikian noted that while the demand for these programmes is strong, greater financial support is needed to bring them to scale.

“Peace Day is an important national reminder, but the work of building peace in schools must continue throughout the year,” she said. “To meet this demand, we need stronger partnerships and greater investment.”

PALS is therefore appealing to both private and public sector partners to support the expansion of its school-based programmes, particularly in communities where structured conflict resolution and behaviour-modification interventions can make a meaningful difference.

“Peace education is not simply a social programme; it is an investment in the future stability and well-being of our country,” Abrikian said. “When young people learn early how to resolve differences peacefully and respect one another, it strengthens not only our schools but our communities and society as a whole.”

PALS expressed appreciation to the many schools, teachers and students who participated in the Peace Day activities and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the work of promoting peace and positive behaviour in Jamaica’s schools. Photos and videos of the day’s celebration are included on the organisation’s website at palsjamaica.org.
