Triple Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by the University of Technology on Wednesday.

The degree is the latest of many accolades for sprint queen, who earned the moniker fastest woman alive after claiming Olympic records of 10.61 in the 100m and 21.53 in the 200m races in Tokyo.

She also added a third gold medal to her 2021 Olympic collection when Jamaica’s female 4x100m relay team won the race in the second-fastest time in history.

The now “Dr” Thompson Herah was named World Athletics’ Female Athlete of the Year, NACAC Female Athlete of the Year, and AW International Female Athlete of the Year. She has been nominated as one of six candidates for the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year.

The 29-year-old took to social media on Wednesday afternoon to share the news of her latest accomplishment, noting that she was “overwhelmed with joy to be recognised for my work and the many blessings from the Lord.”

She added, ”I thank my UTech family for awarding me with the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws. Thank you my fans and sponsors for always helping me to keep the flame to my fire.”

Congratulations to Dr Thompson-Herah!
