Tributes have been flowing for former popular talk show host and media personality Jerry Springer following news of his passing on Thursday.
He passed away at the age 79.
Among the notable condolences came from the talk show field, as former talk show hosts Ricky Lake and Montel Williams reacted to the news.
Lake called Springer a “Lovely Man” and longtime “talk show rival and friend” in her reflection.
Williams was more reserved in his public response saying “My thoughts and prayers go out to Jerry Springer’s family”
Noted British media personality Piers Morgan also reflected on the life of his former colleague.
Springer’s death was confirmed in a statement from his family on Thursday morning.
“He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humour will live on” the statement said adding that Springer died peacefully at his home in the suburbs of Chicago.
His social media pages also shared a tributary post using his popular sign-off slogan from his shows.
Springer who rose to global prominence in the 90’s on the popularity of his controversial daytime show, also had Politcian on his resume, as the British-born broadcaster, served as the 56th Mayor of Cincinnati from 1977 to 1978.
He continued political pursuits throughout out the 1980’s before his sojourn in media where he became one of the most acclaimed political commentators in Cincinnati, where he earned Emmy awards for his work.
