Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton is urging citizens to exercise responsibility in order to combat the onslaught of a possible fourth wave of COVID-19.
This statement comes in response to the call made by the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ) to pull back on the 1:00 am curfew on New Year’s Eve, citing the possibility of more COVID infections emerging from the mass gatherings on New Year’s Eve.
Tufton noted that while the matter at hand is for the cabinet to decide, he believes that each person should be prudent regardless of the curfew time.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Opposition has not supported the call for an earlier curfew saying that such a move would be premature.
Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr Morais Guy, said an assessment should be done of the COVID-19 positivity rate on a weekly basis to determine if there is a trend.
Jamaica has been recording double-digit positivity rates in recent days, even going up to 32.5 per cent on Wednesday.
