It was a scene of confusion and embarrassment at an airport terminal in China as a Chinese woman was reportedly forced to remove all her make-up to proceed through the airport checks, after her identity was allegedly unverifiable by facial recognition scans.

According to reports, a video clip which has gone viral on Chinese social media shows a woman using wipes to remove the cosmetics from her face while being scolded by presumed airport officials about the situation.

“Wipe everything off until you look like your passport photo. Why would you do your makeup like that? You are asking for trouble, said the voice behind the camera, as per reports of the translations on the encounter.

While it remains unclear what happened following the ordeal, if she was allowed to proceed or opted to leave, reports state that the encounter attracted criticism from online users, with many chiding the officals reaction, with others critical of the technology.
