An elderly California woman who heard what she thought were animal noises from beneath her home came in for quite a shock after discovering it was instead from a naked man living under her house.

The woman, who was reported to be in her early 90s, is said to have been hearing various shuffles and noise coming from the base of her Los Angeles, El Sereno home for a while.

“It was usually late at night, and we just chucked it off to animals being under the house,” Ricardo Silva, son-in-law of the senior citizen shared with, NBC Los Angeles. “The noises were kind of like knocking. It was kind of like, as my wife was walking, they were kind of knocking back from under the house so she says, you know something’s wrong.”

However, decided, with the aid of family members, to finally investigate the source after the noise began to get more prominent. It’s understood that family members summoned the police after suspecting the presence of non-wildlife on the premises.

Their suspicions were verified following law enforcement’s intervention, who discovered the nude male resting below the house. It’s understood that it took hours to extract the unclothed trespasser as he refused to vacate following various methods of persuading and intimidating.

The man, identified as 27-year-old Issac Betancourt, is suspected to have been living under the house for 6 months.

He was eventually taken into custody, with the homeowner sharing plans to build a barrier around to prevent future incidents.
