Reggae Girlz and Manchester City Women’s football star Khadija “Bunny” Shaw has officially been nominated for the 2026 Women’s Player of the Year Ballon d’Or award.

Shaw’s nomination was confirmed among fellow nominees following the category reveals by the awards on Tuesday.

The honour, which recognizes the top performances of footballers over the year, is the most coveted individual and team-voted award in the sport.

Shaw’s nomination unsurprisingly comes after a scintillating season of records for Man City, crowned by leading them to a domestic double, including the Women’s Super League (WSL) title, their first in eight seasons and the FA Cup. This against the backdrop of netting a staggering 21 goals in 22 appearances to retain the Golden Boot award for the third time, reaffirming her status as the most lethal women’s striker in England. Further extending her reign as the club’s all-time leading scorer with over 103 goals.

The Jamaican was previously shortlisted among the top-15 best women’s footballers in the world during the 2024 ceremony, which followed her nomination for her mercurial 2023 season.

Performances which have seen experts pegging her among the favourites expected to be considered among the front runners for the award.

The nomination adds to a week of good tidings for the Reggae Girl, who was recently named WSL Players’ Player of the Year for the second time, as well as scoring twice in City’s 3-1 season opener win over Birmingham City women on the weekend.
