As the countdown continues to the Paris Olympic Games, history could be in the making for Jamaica in the field as Triple jump sensation Jaydon Hibbert will be aiming to be Jamaica’s first-ever medalist and potentially the youngest Olympic champion in the event.

Former World and Olympic champion Christian Taylor was declared the youngest male Olympic Triple Jump Champion in over 100 years at 21 years old in 2012, while Catherine Ibargue of Colombia has the record across both genders at 20 following her victory at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Hibbert,19, who is among the gold medal favourites for the event, has already shown his class after opening his season with an astounding 17.33m(+4.3) to win the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix last Sunday.

The World Junior record holder has been near immaculate over the last three years with his only championship fault coming via forced withdrawal from the World Championship final in Budapest, due to injury last year.

The precocious teen has already cemented himself as an all-time great in the event with the 14th-longest distance with a PR of 17.87m, a mark which looks set to improve, given his start to the season.

The 2024 Bowerman Award winner, who has swept all competitions at the US collegiate level in his Freshman year before turning pro in January, will be looking to spearhead Jamaica’s powerhouse Jump squad, which includes World Championship silver medalist Wayne Pinnock former World Champion Tajay Gayle and Championship finalist Carey McLeod.
